![]() I did stow away the information from the promo material that pushed front and center the fact that it is based on the “true story that inspired the events of Moby Dick”, but that’s about where its influence ends ( Editorial note: I’d be happy to watch the movie if I stumble upon it on TV but I don’t feel the need to actively chase it). ![]() ![]() And yet, when I saw a hardback edition of In the Heart of the Sea available in Abebooks for less than four euros I could not resist the purchase.īefore I proceed any further, I’d like to state for the record that, although I’ve been aware of the existence of the Ron Howard film it has only minimally influenced this purchase. On the back of my mind, I knew that I was setting myself up for failure because as I read Moby Dick, I realized its uniqueness. Melville’s story had a profound impact on me and, like a junkie in need of a fix, soon after I finished it, I desperately desired to chase the high it had left with monomaniacal obsession. There is only one reason why I’ve read this book: Moby Dick. ![]()
